5 Reasons Your Kitchen Isn’t as Clean as You Think

What is one of the biggest mistakes homeowners make when trying to maintain a beautiful home? Not cleaning enough!

The kitchen is the part of  the home that is often used but gets sorely neglected in the cleaning department. It’s one thing to have a tidy kitchen, to wipe down the countertops, and have the dishes put away, but it’s a whole other animal when crumbs, debris, and who-knows-what else is lurking in areas you’ve forgotten about.

So, it’s time to put on the gloves and give your kitchen a New Year’s Kiss of Clean. These 5 areas are sure to sparkle once you’re done…

Refrigerator

No matter how organized your refrigerator is, the amount of bacteria that builds up from uncooked or old food that gets left too long is staggering. Wipe down your shelves and drawers regularly, don’t overpack food, and make sure to keep raw meat separate from everything else!

Oven

Even though nobody is willing to admit it, you probably aren’t cleaning your oven as often as you should. Once a month is a good time to periodically clean. Otherwise, baked on grease and food will be a huge pain to clean up if you wait too long.

Ceiling

Look up! Food splatters everywhere — especially near the stove. Take a gander after cooking and make sure any random splatterings of liquid on the walls and ceiling are wiped down after cooking.

Cabinets and Drawers

Cabinets and drawers gather tons of dust and other random debris. Give a periodic wipe down to keep everything shiny and new. Places that need extra attention are pantries and other food storage cabinets and shelves where liquids (like olive oil and honey) like to seap and make everything sticky. These should be wiped down about once a week.

Under the Sink

What’s going on under there? Does anybody know? This area is like the junk drawer for cleaning supplies and other kitchen/household items. To avoid an under-the-sink landfill, organize your supplies and throw anything away you haven’t used in a long time. The cleaner it is down here, the more likely you’ll be to use it!

I couldn’t agree more, tidying the kitchen up is quite a challenging work and cleaning is one of the most important ways to an aesthetical home.

Countertop is one of the most used in the kitchen, so it might need a good attention to keep it clean. Thanks for the tips, Monica!

What causes dust to appear on the furniture? It keeps floating on the surface of my kitchen, does adding homeplant do the work?

HD Plumb – Most indoor dust comes from outdoors. So the best way to prevent dust would be to control the opening and closing of outdoor access points.
